DANCE AND SING ALONG WITH MITCH MILLER AND THE GANG, Decca DL 4777 mono/DL 74777 stereo. Vinyl Lp dates June, 1966.What can I say? I'm a vinyl addict. This is truly whitebread opiate '60s drug music, an assembly line audio lobotomy pressed on vinyl disc, impulse muzak curiosity purchase par excellence.Mitch Miller's sing-along album series on Columbia ran through something like 18 albums of the same song clones with the same clone testosterone-soaked lobotomied male choral arrangements, but after early 1962 the series had petered out and dropped off the charts, only after selling more RIAA gold albums than any other act in the pre-Beatles' era. Bigger than Elvis, bigger than Johnny Mathis, bigger than Peter, Paul, and Mary, and only Capitol's Kingston Trio got close. The last Mitch sing-along on Columbia was the uncharted HYMN SING ALONG CS 8863 vinyl Lp from September, 1963.Vinyl Lp comes in a standard two pocket foldout paper over cardstock cover which normally housed two Lps; however, this set has the one vinyl Lp and the second pocket has extra paper copies of the song lyrics printed on the inner gatefold flap. Sound still has the same male chorus, but the instrumental backing here has a basic bass/drum rhythm section and brass section sanitizing a Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass style, alternating fast or slow shuffle beat, for buyers with a Lawrence Welk taste. Song selections all pre-date the rock 'n roll era, the latest selections showing 1944 copyright dates, excepting for the Lerner & Lowe movie song from 1953.
