It's a beautiful corset, the steel boning is in the two front panels where the silver closures are, and then all the other boning channels have thick plastic boning. Believe it or not, having the two strips of genuine steel boning in the very center is enough to help you stay ramrod straight with your posture, and then the plastic boning in the rest of the channels allows for a little bit of give, so I didn't get as exhausted wearing this, as I have with corsets that were steel boned all around. I could sit in this comfortably, and even drive wearing it. Quick note, it does NOT have any garter belts/straps, so if you want to wear traditional gartered stockings with this, you'll need to order those separately and stitch garter belt loops into the inside of the corset. Also, it's a nightmare to put on by yourself, so have someone help you. Since the closures in the front kept popping open, I hand-stitched all of them closed (stitched them down) and hid the stitches in with the factory stitching. Then I had someone lace me into it. I ordered the X-LARGE. I weigh 155-160 pounds, I'm about 5 feet 6 inches tall. I wear a 38D bra. My bust measurement is 38". My waist measurement is 32". This fits perfectly, and a LARGE would have been perfect too. When I wear the X-LARGE, the lacings come all the way together in the back, so the back boning channels are right immediately next to each other. If I had ordered a LARGE, it still would have fit perfectly, and there would have been a few inches of "open" space down the center of the back between the lacings. That open space is covered by an attached modesty panel of the same black satin jacquard fabric as the rest of the corset. I suppose if you wanted your skin to show in the back in that open space, you could easily take the modesty panel out (or have a seamstress do it for you). My boyfriend loved this corset, it's vintage looking and definitely a bit "dirty/dangerous" because of the black color and black lacings, and the fabric and ruffles keep it innocent and playful, and slightly Victorian with a little burlesque flavor. Definitely worth the money!
