The Heroic Legend of Arslan Season Two: Dust Storm Dance consists of only 8 episodes, essentially half of a normal season. One would think this season would seem like filler after the end of the first season seemed to undo all the progress and send our main characters on a side quest, but one would be quite wrong.While the season does seem to be more of a side venture with Arslan and company having to build an even larger army to be allowed to return to the kingdom by edict of the king, the season wastes no time at all in weaving the main story directly back into our protagonists' path.The shorter season has no decline in story quality. The animation remains top notch as the first season. The new plot is as interesting and as engaging as the various mini-arcs through the first season. Even the fact that it's only 12 episodes isn't disappointing. What disappoints is that this is the last of the series, and it ends on a doozy of a cliff hanger as multiple armies converge on one point, two heading for head on conflict and Arslan seeking to join the fray at the plea of his own enemy.When the manga finally reach their conclusion, which will be a feat in its own right as the original novels have yet to be translated to English in any official capacity, we can only hope the series will be revived much like Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood received. Ironic as the two series have interconnected creative talent on the mangas that translate to the anime for each.
