Product Description

Reef Genetics GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide) Phosphate Reducer fights harmful algae in fresh and saltwater aquariums by eliminating their phosphate food source. If left unchecked, high phosphate levels can inhibit coral growth and coloration as well as cause unsightly algae growth.

Our high-quality, virgin, drinking water-grade GFO adsorbs phosphates quicker than other phosphate removal medias. It also keeps them away longer, leading to a clearer, healthier tank environment. All while spending less time cleaning your aquarium.

  • High capacity and removal of phosphates for long lasting effects
  • Eliminates silicates, arsenic and many heavy metals
  • Reduces and prevents algae growth
  • Safe for all fresh and saltwater aquariums, reef tanks and ponds
  • Highly effective in reactors, filters socks, and canister filters

How to Remove Phosphates from Water and Reduce Algae
  1. Initial starting dose = 1 gram/gallon.
  2. Rinse all new media and place in media bag or fluidized reactor
  3. For optimal effectiveness check weekly and do not allow overall phosphate levels to test above 0.25ppm. If phosphates are present and above 0.15ppm, GFO should be increased or replaced.
  4. If After 24 hours there are any negative coral reactions visible then reduce the amount by half.

Pro tip: Start slowly since GFO removes phosphates quickly and effectively to avoid shocking your aquarium.
